State J-Day at CSU-Fort Collins

J-Day 2012, featuring JEA Yearbook Adviser of the Year Kim Green, was the largest in CHSPA history, with 1,403 students and 99 advisers attending. Many thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors, and to the many session presenters who provided a day with 36 learning sessions, tours of Rocky Mountain Student Media and the campus, and to Ryan Avery, world champion speaker from Toastmasters, who kicked off the day.

We honored Kristi Rathbun, Rock Canyon HS, as our Adviser of the Year, and Dr. James Calhoun, principal at Castle View HS, as our Administrator of the Year. For details on our honorees and all our speakers, you can download a PDF of the J-Day program here.

We also presented “officially” our All-Colorado award winners at the closing ceremony, and you can download the Excel document with all ratings from our judges here.

The announcement of winners in our new all-electronic Best of Show contests, judged a few days before J-Day, topped off the closing ceremony. The place winners:

Looking to next fall
We are confirmed to return
to the Lory Student Center on Thursday Oct. 10, 2013, and you can download the J-Day registration form here when it is available in early August of 2013.

You may have heard that Lory will undergo a nearly $70 million renovation, and that work begins in earnest in May, 2013. The project is scheduled to be completed within 16 months of the start, and includes a complete remodel of the Main Ballroom and the two food courts. This renovation will force some creativity in scheduling rooms, providing lunch, etc. Stay tuned for details as they are available.

One thing we are confident of: it will be beautiful weather on Oct. 10, for the 12th consecutive year of J-Day at CSU!
